Over 100 yards of the old highway has been upturned so far. Mountain bikers, historians and equestrians are furious. The Old Mount Hood highway is was the road used to bring workers, equipment and materials to the site where Timberline Lodge would be built. President Franklin D. Roosevelt travelled on the road on his way to inaugurate Timberline Lodge in 1937. Now, according to one local commentator, “… it is now just a minefield of asphalt chunks with sharp edges” Many more roads are scheduled for similar destruction.
