Apparent Woodburn Roadway Rampage

One car becomes two pieces. Another catches fire and rolls in ditch. The suspect, a driver of a third vehicle reportedly bites an arresting police officer. Police dog bites the suspect after feeling scene. Suspect is charged with Driving under the influence, assault, failure to perform duties of a driver in an injury crash, reckless endangerment and assaulting a police officer.

The incredible event occurred about 11pm May 2nd on Highway ((E south of Woodburn. That night, Oregon State Police received many reports of a blue, 2005 Chevrolet Colorado speeding north on Highway 99E northbound toward Woodburn. The Chevy crossed the center line, knocking the rear driver’s side of 2014 Dodge Pickup traveling the opposite direction (south), The Dodge spun, rolled into a ditch bursting into flames.

Luckily, the driver of the Dodge somehow escaped the wreckage and was eventually rushed to Salem Hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, the Chevy crashed into a southbound Honda Civic, causing the Civic to split into two pieces. The Honda driver was air transported to OHSU with apparent serious injuries. The alleged driver at fault, HUGO GONZALEZ HERNANDEZ, 32, of Woodburn, allegedly took off on foot and hid in a nearby greenhouse until he was tracked down with the help of a K-9 unit. In the course of the apprehension, the suspect allegedly bit an arresting officer in the arm.
